In open tundra, the group was in the process of forming a defensive circle due to the proximity of Canis lupus hudsonicus (wolves) which were distributed around the margins of the group. Third image identifies one of the wolves with an arrow.

Growing in large fen with abundant Betula pumila and occasional Betula papyrifera. Other obvious possiblity is x purpursii but no Yellow Birch nearby and no wintergreen scent to twigs

There are some very beautiful examples of medium sized Bald Cypress (one word or two?) around Newnans Lake, some of which which could one day, in a thousand years or two, be massive towering giants.
This little elbow of land protruding into the lake seems to be a real long distance bird magnet, pretty well known to local birders.
Palm Point is a perfect place to ponder the profound.

These photos do not do this spider justice with regard to how big it was. Never seen anything like it in Ontario. Like a small tarantula and it was fast. Both me and the guy I was working with couldn't believe how big it was. I first noticed it because I thought there was a small mammal in the weeds just a head of us walking. At edge of farm field.
