Descripción

Goldfinches were feeding avidly on algae (?) on exposed rocks on the river bed. (2007 was a year of extreme drought in this area, and the river level was very low.) This was the best photo I got of one with it in beak. As far as I could tell, the birds were after the algae itself, and not any associated animals. As I recall, they were wolfing down whole strands of the green stuff.
