Went to Welder Wildlife Refuge to look for a few plants and other things (with permission from director). Tried to find a few historic plant populations, but those areas were dominated with non-native grasses. Oh well. Still had some fun finding other critters and plants! :)
What a wonderful morning that I had with Anna Strong looking for some rare plants. Still pretty dry, although we did get a touch of rain last night!
Good photo of nitida with open flower. Told that it is uncommon for the flowers to open on the ones here.
Glass Mountain crested coralroot (Hexalectris nitida)
Spent about 5 hours searching for Glass Mountain Coralroots in Travis County. Found this one group containing just 2 plants. Was hoping to find more, but always happy to find any of these elusive orchids. One plants was 11 inches tall, the other 7 inches.
