Looks like a Bobbit Worm but was found in Santa Barbara, CA (which is not within the range of the bobbit worm…) The animal was brought on to the Wet Deck of the Sea Center for observation under a microscope.
Marine polychaete with eversible proboscis. Found inside and on rotten wood, appears to be feeding on the ship worms inside

This one is different from the last one I ran into. It's lacking the red "tail" of T. pacifica. However, this individual was markedly smaller, perhaps it's related to life stage? Not sure.
Found on Diopatra tube cap. About 4 mm long.
