Mostly resupinate fungus on a fallen branch on a forested trail
Found growing in a deciduous forest (pawpaw, oak, sycamore, etc.)
Plain white cap (no scales or fancy coloring)
Trailside, surrounded by Hemlocks & Oaks, sandy ground, stinky scent, like dirty socks, but not terribly unbearable.
Specimen sequenced from this log previously. It's still going strong this year!
Caespitose clumps growing at the base of a deciduous tree, likely from a buried root. Caps dry, largest diameter about 5 cm. Gills close, adnexed, pale gray, not darkening to chocolate brown. Partial veil flimsy, white. Stalk tough, hollow. Flesh not bruising. KOH on cap and flesh negative. Odor not distinctive. Spores medium brown; in KOH smooth, 6.5-7.9 x 3.6-4.2 um. Cheilocystidia (3rd pic) 32x10-12.5 um. Pleurocystidia (4th pic) 20-23x9-13 um. Pileus strings of inflated, empty hyphae, no clamps, most gelatinized near gill layer.
Any help appreciated.
