Gloeocapsa photobiont with a red to purple gelatinous sheath and ascogones and tricogynes beneath the pycnidia.
Very tiny, on base of dead Green Ash in vernal pool, growing in bark fissures. spores 17.5-25x10 8 per ascus. Smaller spores 3 septate, larger 4-5 septate.
Growing on eroded sandstone/siltstone rock in pine-dominant hilly area in western Nebraska.
