Yellow-faced Bumblebee

Today, on a very short hike near my house (about .3 of a mile), I saw four Yellow-faced Bumblebees. I had seen one on the Lake Merritt Bio-Blitz, too, and at least one on campus this past week. So I am learning something, I hope, about the seasonality of this bee.

GGNRA Bio-Blitz, and Upcoming Anniversary

The San Mateo County Bio-Blitz will be one year old in mid-April. Let's see if we can't make 1600+ species and 10,000 observations by then!

The Golden Gate National Recreation Area Bio-Blitz is scheduled for March 28 and 29! This is a HUGE event. Be sure to participate, especially at the two San Mateo county sites: Rancho Corral de Tierra (Montara) and Mori (Pacifica). http://www.nationalgeographic.com/explorers/projects/bioblitz/golden-gate-california-2014/

Thanks to all 150 members for your continued support of this project. - gyrrlfalcon (a.k.a. Jennifer Rycenga)

10,000 observations!

The San Mateo County Bio-Blitz project just passed the 10,000 observations! Thanks to all 160 members for contributing to this fantastic achievement, all in less than a year since the project's launch. We are assembling a map of occurrences for all taxa across the county. As the project continues to grow, these earliest contributions will only increase in importance. Keep on seein' and sightin' and recordin' - and attend the Bio-Blitz next weekend at GGNRA! - Jennifer Rycenga
