Εκβρασμός Φώκαινας στην περιοχή της Νέας Χιλής στην Αλεξανδρούπολη!!!

Η Φώκαινα (Phocoena_phocoena) είναι ένα σπάνιο κητώδες που βρίσκεται σε ψυχρά, ήπια έως υποπολικά νερά του Βόρειου ημισφαιρίου. Γνωστοί πληθυσμοί υπάρχουν στη Μαύρη θάλασσα, την Αζοφική θάλασσα και τη θάλασσα του Μαρμαρά.

Ο περιορισμένος πληθυσμός τους στη Μαύρη Θάλασσα εκτιμάται στα 10,000-12,000 άτομα και δέχεται ανθρώπινες πιέσεις, όπως η τυχαία σύλληψή τους σε δίχτυα αλιέων, τα λοιμώδη νοσήματα, οι τραυματισμοί από διερχόμενα πλοία, οι εξορύξεις υδρογονανθράκων και άλλα.

Ο πληθυσμός του έχει χαρακτηριστεί ως «#Κινδυνεύων" βάσει της Διεθνούς Ένωσης Προστασίας της Φύσης (#IUCN).

Στη Μεσόγειο η κατανομή του φαίνεται να περιορίζεται στο Βορειοανατολικό #Αιγαίο και συγκεκριμένα στο #Θρακικό πέλαγος με πολύ σπάνιες καταγραφές, κυρίως από ζωντανά τραυματισμένα ή νεκρά άτομα, με αποτέλεσμα η παρουσία μόνιμου πληθυσμού να θεωρείται αβέβαιη.

Dead porpoise washed up on Nea Chilis beach in Alexandroupolis

The harbour porpoise (Phocoena phocoena) is a rare marine mammal that leaves in cold, mild to shallow waters of the Northern Hemisphere. Known populations are found in the Black Sea, the Sea of Azov, and the Sea of Marmara.

Their limited population in the Black Sea is estimated at 10,000-12,000 individuals and it is seriously threatened by accidental fishing infectious diseases, injuries from passing ships, carbon exploration and more

The harbour porpoise population has been described as "#Endangered". Based on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (#IUCN).

In the Mediterranean, its distribution seems to be limited to North East Aegean and specifically to the Thracian Sea with very rare records, mainly from injured or dead individuals, so it is uncertain if there is a presence of a permanent population.
Arion and the Veterinary School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki were immediately informed about the incident.
