🐢 PORTLANDER ↗ ECOLOGIST ↗ COMMUNITY SCIENTIST

🌱 BACKGROUND
My childhood in the sheltered suburbs of Clackamas, OR felt somewhat detached from nature, with much of my exposure coming from TV documentaries! I continued to cultivate my nerdy love for science and nature while earning a B.S. in Biology at Pacific University followed by an M.S. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at UCLA. Since then, I've shifted gears from academic research to on-the-ground wildlife and habitat conservation, working for local nonprofits (e.g., Columbia Land Trust, Johnson Creek Watershed Council, Conservation InSight) and agencies (e.g., Metro, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Services). My passions are planted at the intersection of people and nature, which is why I love volunteering with initiatives like the 4-County CWMA Mapping & Data Committee (as vice-chair) and Friends of Trees (as a Greenspace and Neighborhood crew leader).

🦉 BIG THANKS!
I started out as a major bird nerd but since 2017 have expanded my interests and ID skills to many other taxa -- plants, insects, herps, fungi, etc. -- with most of the credit going to iNaturalist community members like you!

🐝 LET'S NATURE 2GETHER!
I'm thrilled to creatively and cooperatively leverage iNaturalist as a platform for connecting our local communities to science and nature! I really enjoy brainstorming and creating innovative projects focused on environmental issues and grounded in diversity, equity, and inclusion. As a second-generation Chinese American, I am motivated to instill a "cultural confidence" to underserved communities so that they can be more comfortable in accessing new and unfamiliar outdoor opportunities across our region. Please always feel free to message me to talk projects or ideas or to simply say hello!
