Shyam Phartyal is a Humboldtian and JSPS Alumni, currently associated with the School of Ecology and Environment Studies (SEES), Nalanda University, India as an Associate Professor.

He is one of the leading Indian Seed Ecologists having research interested in life-history (regenerative) traits of wild plants, plant-herbivore interactions, plant phenology, and citizen science.

He has credited with >55 research papers in reputed peer-reviewed journals, and currently serving as an Associate Editor for Seed Science & Technology (an official publication of ISTA), and Reviewer for leading plant journals.

He is a member of the International Society for Seed Science (ISSS) and IUCN-SSC Seed Conservation Specialist Group.
