I'm mostly a plant person based in western Massachusetts. I have a formal background in fire ecology and forestry, which dovetails nicely with my botanist's disposition. I also have quite a bit of experience with mammal tracks and sign. My principal interests include the ecology and biogeography of native grasses, sedges and rare orchids, as well as relict boreal communities in southern New England, especially enriched coniferous wetlands. I also have an interest in longleaf pine savannas & associated ecotonal communities of the southeastern U.S., and most recently I've cultivated a fascination with the Sonoran desert biome.
