Welcome to Heart of the Island Bioblitz 2022!

Hello everyone,

In kicking off our upcoming Bioblitz on July 9, 10 of this year I wanted to share with you a blog post about Vashon Nature Center's Bioblitz effort that started in 2012. This will be our 10th anniversary Bioblitz this year!

I am also using this journal article to tag the 20 most prolific contributors and 10 most frequent identifiers to the parent project that all our Bioblitz data and more feeds into: Vashon Biodiversity Project. I wanted to let all of you know about this upcoming Bioblitz in case you'd like to follow it or participate in helping with identifications. Or, if you are in the area and not involved yet, stop by!

Thank you all for your help in cataloguing and identifying biodiversity on Vashon Island through the years!

Join us for a 24- hour Bioblitz of Vashon Island, WA town and surrounding natural areas.
The Bioblitz runs from 1 pm July 9th to 1 pm July 10th, 2022. This is Vashon Nature Center's 10th anniversary Bioblitz! You can be involved in many ways:

1. iNaturalist users from anywhere in the world: Help us identify or confirm identities of species photos posted in real-time or after the event!
2. Is your property within the Bioblitz boundaries? Do your own property survey in this 24 hour period and any photos you upload to iNaturalist will automatically be included in the count!

3. Are you on Vashon and want to help with a survey team? Sign up at this link:

4. COME BY DURING THE EVENT. There are plenty of things to do and see at basecamp at the Vashon Heritage Museum 10105 SW Bank RD right in town!
5. Join us for a free community nature walk on July 9th from 7-8:30 pm at Fisher Pond on Bank Road in partnership with Vashon-Maury Island Land Trust.
