ROUTE TAKEN: Parked off Exit at I-93, walked south to bog trail, then bog trail to end. Back in reverse.
TERRAIN: Path from I-93 goes down a gentle grade to pond - flat from there.
PHENOLOGY: Green vegetation from there.

Saw this mushroom along the path from Rte 128 to Ponkapoag Dam. It looks like it was a chunk of bark.
The classification chosen was based on the most similar looking one in a list of mushrooms.

Found near the YMCA camp within Blue Hills Reservation. I only got one shot before it moved around the tree, then moved on.

Saw this cricket while flipping the leaf of a fern along the Ponkapoag Pond Bog Trail. It remained in place while I took pictures.
Found this pair along the Ponkapoag Bog Trail within Blue Hills Reservation. There is sphagnam moss. The area is wet around it.
I found a stand of these trees at the beginning of the Ponkapoag Pond Bog Trail There is standing water at the base, but it is still pretty close to the higher ground.
These could be the same tree as the smaller ones out in the bog mat, but the needles are a little different and the bark is ridged and darker than the silvery bark of the cedars on the mat. Plus, a checklist identified white cedar as being in the area.
Found this tiny spider while looking at plants along the Ponkapoag Pond Bog Trail. The spider was located well out in the floating mat part, but it likely doesn't matter to it.
Found at the edge of the mat in the pond. These appear different than the other cedars at the beginning of the Ponkapoag Pond Bog Trail, but it may just be that the trees at the beginning are more mature.

This dragon fly decided to pause on the wood plank for a while, then flew to a branch for a while, then moved on.
Saw this dragonfly right after I saw the other, bluish one. It, too landed on a branch to rest for a bit, then flew on.

Found along the Ponkapoag Pond Bog Trail within Blue Hills Reservation, out on the bog mat in the open. My first visit was at dusk. The pictures taken with a flash made it look like it was raining cotton balls!.
