Geographic Range

This species is endemic to the Philippine islands of Balabac, Busuanga, Culion and Palawan. At present, the population on Mindoro is also attributed to this species. It probably occurs more widely than current records suggest, especially in areas between known sites on Palawan.

Conservation Actions

There remains a need for much improved protection of the remaining rainforest habitats on Palawan, especially riverine habitats and gallery forests. Conservation measures must include the regulation and proper disposal of pesticides and herbicides. Human exploitation of this species needs to be investigated to determine if this activity needs to be regulated.

Red List Rationale

Listed as Vulnerable because its Extent of Occurrence is less than 20,000 km2, its distribution is severely fragmented, and there is continuing decline in the extent and quality of its forest habitat on the Philippine islands of Balabac, Busuanga, Culion and Palawan.
