Endemic to Madagascar and restricted to southern and south western areas.

Reported as common and widespread.

A deciduous multi-stemmed shrub, 1-3 m tall, occurring in dry, low, deciduous woodland and xerophytic shrubland, sometimes in disturbed areas along roadsides. Found to occur on sand or limestone up to 900 m, but usually much lower. Flowers from August/September to February/April.

The wood is used for fuel and for poles in house construction.

This species is common and widespread across south and south western Madagascar. At present it does not meet, or is close to meeting any threshold for a threatened category so is assessed as least Concern.
