I am in disbelief. This caterpillar looked insane with the sunlight, almost translucent with black spots. After looking at this pink moth species the caterpillars match. I cant believe it this is how I find my first pink moth haha.
After almost 6 years I hit 2,000 observations! I cant believe I made it this much, but the adventures and memories I made along the way have been so worth the time and energy to photograph and upload all these amazing species. To commemorate this milestone, I want to dedicate this observation for this moth. I found this moth after a long day and I felt compassion for it. I was with my partner and I was just fascinated on how it got itself tucked by a window stilt. I felt sorry for the little moth and I want it too know that their life was more than death. It will forever live on in my heart and in this amazing database. My wish would be to identify it to species level so that it may get the proper commemoration it deserves. Thank you moth for living your life and being what you are. It’s an honor to represent you the 2,000th observation.
To transition into 2023 I will share my most important observation of the last year. While walking in campus I stumbled upon this nuthatch. It was injured. And I felt so bad for it and tried to hold it and see what was wrong. It seemed like its wing has been broken and it has had internal damage. I had class in a few minutes and I knew I couldn’t help it. I went to class and when I came back it was cold. I felt a wave of sadness but I knew this was the reality of nature. I said my farewells and honored the life it had. Such an amazing specimen of bird and I feel lucky to have had been able to have contact with it before its eventual death. This bird is a symbolism that life is short and each year that I’m able to live is a blessing. I hope that this year will be one of hope and life. Cheers to another year of inat, a constant in my life that helps me appreciate the world around us, even when the dark clouds are clouding my vision. Thank you white-breasted nuthatch. Your life was more than you will ever imagine. Let your legacy forever live on.
Wow I finally have one A STEEL BLUE so metallic like adonized pearl what an amazing lady beetle
I have NEVER seen anything like this creature. The colors the texture the look it’s just alien like. Suggestions would be incredibly helpful. I want to know how it even became like that. Is it dry from low tide or is it not even an anemone. Such an insane observation with so many questions. @joe_fish any suggestions or even species?
To a place that ain’t real. FREGATAAAAA MINOR wow this is just great. This horde just randomly came flying during my time at a secret beach and just started making noise and flying like a whole black spot coming from the sky. It was beautiful and just magnificent. These pictures are amazing I can’t believe myself. They are my top 10 it’s like so so so so extravagant it looks so fake it looks like a fantasy. A fantasy world……………………………………………………!!!!!!!!
oh MY THE REACTION I HD TO SEEING JT WAS A RACCOON BUTTERFLYFISH YEHAIAHSIS LUNULA LUNULA I saw this species at an aquarium and it became easily one of my favorites in this family and this whole time I had a picture of it WHAT just like a shiny found in a tidal pool MY 1600th observation and it’s perfect
Found along Gordon's Creek, in the leaves of a Dysoxylum gaudichaudianum sapling (at ~3-4 meters above ground). This sapling was growing next to (almost touching) a very large, mature Dysoxylum gaudichaudianum, on which small sap runs were observed ~ 2 meters from ground level.
oh lord I DID NOT EZPECT THIS IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR POISON IVY ALL MY LIFE and whenever I thought I found it it would never be it and now I took this photo of a random plant not thinking it was TOXICODENDRON but turns out it was. It’s a lot larger than I expected and I also got way toooo close so wow. YAY I FINALLY GOT IT I think I see some Atlantic poison oak but I’m not too sure? Welll FINALLT my first every poison Ivy the one from the curios George episode that alerted me as a kid man Poor the man with the yellow hat. RADICANS RADICAL RIDICULOUS maybe I’ll get the rest of this genus someday but for now let’s rejoice in the formal observation of THE EASTERN POISON IVYYYYYY
After doing some research this was the species of robber fly. It is found in arizona around the canyon as well. The eyes also match perfectly. However it may be another species not yet existing in inaturalist but for now frustrus seems like the safe pick.
Estaba en el parque comiendo corviche con amigos y el organismo se nos acercó interesado en el alimento, por lo que si es o no una mascota de alguna persona no me es posible saberlo, posiblemente es callejero :)
Yes I finally took a picture of a Blue Jay. 😄 So happy!!! :)
This can be a new born?
Perfection. I never thought when I first began inat that I would ever hit this milestone. I mean 1000 species? Not even 12 year old me knew half of that. My first observation was a house sparrow in Israel’s airport. And ever since I’ve collected and observed hundreds of insects, mammals, and plants. Each species holds meaning. Each species is important. No matter what it was or how it looked like. Every species has its purpose and that’s why nature is perfect. From this tiny leafhopper to a Snowy Throated Kingbird. I am so happy that after 5 years of traveling and constantly searching for organisms in my everyday life. To being able to observe a species that only I have on this app (Frigga Kessleri) and the only sighting in a whole country is absurd to me. Inaturalist has changed my life and I couldn’t be more joyous to be able to post my 1000 species. I know this is just the beginning. I’m almost 18 and I cant wait until I grow older and update my life list. My all time goal is 10,000 species. I’ll try my all to achieve it. This species means a lot to me. I found it with my partner @maritzam13 and it matches so much with many aspects of my life. I’m grateful for Mother Nature and the opportunity for me to continue my passion. Thank you everybody for being a part of this journey. I’ll continue as long as I live.
Which spider species is this?
It can't be from here though?
Which Species of moth is this? It has striped legs and it is all covered with color brown. Plus it has a white color underneath of its wings.
It can be other types of king birds.
Can be a new species for inat since it was found in a desolate area and look different
No clue but these photos show a red abdomen that could help.
I never seen a spider like this could be a grass spider but I’m no expert @treegrow do you have a suggestion?
There has been a few observations in Hawaii however it hasn’t been specified to the species. I hope this gets solved soon cause it seems like they have a good population in the island and have kinda unique and distinct markings to other species in the genus @kmagnacca @bdgley we should work together to find the spcies or contact some biologists to spend a bit fo time so we can once and for all have the answer to this mystery!
Which Species of ant is this? It can be the subfamily pseudomyrmex.
YESSS after some research. This plant bug matches the geography and the patterns as well. I really didn’t think I would find it but here we are yay. It was so light.
What is this organism! It came out of nowhere when I was cleaning up my room. Help would be appreciated.
I don’t think that this is a fruit fly, since it’s totally orange-brownish. Help would be appreciated!
6/24/22
I finally reached my 100th observation! I'm really happy with how my quality turned out and of the second image of the bee flying to the flower!! 🌷🐝
This photo was also taken on the same day as our seventh month anniversary @amirludena 🥰💕 He is the reason why I found out about INaturalist and he helped me get so many observations on this day that I will upload eventually! 😊
@amirludena I'm really excited to get many more observations with you. I love you so so much 🥰💖
I love the coloring all black
There is a close up and a far picture of this hover fly.
Narran Lakes Nature Reserve 'East Mullane' Two adult males and 10+ female/other. Amongst Cypress Pine and Bimble Box on red ridge.
What is this!!!! Super weird! Never seen anything like it. I think it is a sharpshooter, but it’s a bit skinnier and smaller than one. Help would be appreciated!
Darkling beetle found in the beach of Oahu. Since the 1990s the Hawaii invasive species website has confirmed its existence in the island. Their are many observations of them but most are just the genus, because no one has tried to find the specific species that was hiding the whole time. But with some research and help from journals and images/info from biologists who have found this beetle in the past. Have given it this scientific name. I believe the others observations of people with the same beetle fall under this species, since it’s located in the same region in a covered island and have same exact features and coloring unlike other darkling beetles around the genus. Here is the link if anyone is wondering about the species https://www.invasive.org/browse/subthumb.cfm?sub=80457&fam=481
There is also a few more pockets of information for this relatively obscure insect. Now I hope a curator of some sort can create the species for it in inat so others can use it in the future. Here is another site showing the location of it in Oahu and some other extra info https://www.ipmimages.org/browse/detail.cfm?imgnum=5550529
I hope this can get some attention cause the information was out here all along we just need to add it to Inaturalist . Thanks for reading
Which Species of slider turtle is this?
Maybe a species endemic to Venezuela?
Which Species of Carpenter Bees is this?
@xpda possible species id. It was found next to the Grand Canyon if that helps. Was looking at others species in the genus but nothing looks like it or matches the stripe color but maybe I should research more
Possibly, I see speckled white dots under the bellies! Plus, why are they colorful this time of year!
Looks like it's starting to transition to the terminal color phase.
I think it is?
I have no clue what this could be! To bad I didn’t have the time to turn it over. Help would be greatly appreciated!
It is so hard to check which Species this leaf hopper is. The internet does not help at all. Now how am I going to be sure that this is a new species. Guess I will never know. There are just to many leaf hoppers around the world I guess. So sad.
One of my favorite animals of all time.
Never seen something so pretty. I am glad to say this is my FINAL observation for my Two week journey where I ended up with a total of 1111 observations of which 300 were from this trip. It was amazing to experience and see all the different and the differences the species had from The Grand Canyon to the beaches of Oahu. Now enjoy the smiling Geico lizard and his stylish makeup.
Mahalo!
Seems like it but I don’t know. Just did some research and it has the perfect location and almost exactly the same body and look like Cephalotes Inca. Thing is idk how rare those are in Guayaquil. I heard they have been found there, but there is none in INaturalist so it would be the first.
Which Species of caterpillar is this?
