I found this Common Red Paintbrush at Johnston Ridge Observatory north of Mount St. Helens. It was on the south facing slope which is fully exposed to the sun.

The temperature was in the mid 80's and it was sunny.

Common Red Paintbrush can be found in the PNW at low to high elevations. It's flower petals are bright red and pointed.

Terrestrial annual growing in mixed forest, Thuja plicata and Acer macrophyllum overstory, growth near Gaultheria shallon and Vaccinium parvifolium.

Stems and inflorescence incredibly glandular and sticky. Flowers are white and small. Triangular basal leaves that are light green and smooth on top and white-finely tomentose on the undersides.

This specimen is located in a rural residential area of east Grays Harbor county.

Weather was low 70's, sunny and a slight breeze.

It was growing in disturbed soil near Douglas Firs.

ID'd using iNaturalist to confirm. This is a common but sporadic plant in this location.
