Spring Peepers in the Winter
On January 1st, I heard a few Northern Spring Peepers calling at the West Virginia Botanic Garden. The temperature was in the mid-50s and it had been raining all day.

I traveled to Monongalia County, WV today (January 15th) to collect some moss specimens to ID and photograph at home under the microscope. I made the trip today because an impending winter storm is forecast to dump up to a foot of snow throughout the entire region. While in WV, I also collected bark samples from three different tree species in hopes of culturing some slime molds.
