Eating galls... For science - April 2024

Gall 1: Neuroterus quercusbaccarum on Quercus faginea
Date: April 20
Taste: Vaguely grape-like. But more watery than Plagiotrochus quercusilicis for example.
Texture: Fleshy, grape-like, although much more firmer than what I expected.
Smell: Slightly fruity.

Gall 2: Pericartiellus durieui on Umbilicus rupestris
Date: April 19
Taste: Just somewhat leafy and watery. Not too good.
Texture: Crunchy but fleshy, as firm as a pear maybe.
Smell: Noticeably leafy.

Gall 3: Biorrhiza pallida on Quercus faginea
Date: April 6
Taste: Actually close to an apple, probably because I was hungry though. Also currant-like but sweeter than Plagiotrochus quercusilicis
Texture: Crunchy but fleshy, also like an apple.
Smell: None noticed.
Notes: Not much of a difference between a "ripe" gall and the green one.
