While the large marsh grasshopper (Stethophyma grossum) is the biggest and most handsome of all British grasshoppers, it’s also one of the rarest. The degradation and loss of their preferred habitat, fens and peat bogs, have constricted their range considerably. Today, it survives almost exclusively in the valley mires and wet heaths of the New Forest and Dorset. This talk will introduce how a partnership project led by Citizen Zoo and involving Norfolk Wildlife Trust, the Wildlife Trust for Beds, Cambs & Northants and Natural England has returned the large marsh grasshopper to a number of wetlands across Norfolk. This project is pioneering community engagement in which local people are trained in grasshopper husbandry to become Citizen Keepers.

My PhD research focuses on the relationship between aquatic macrophytes and macroinvertebrates. I'm specifically interested in the non-trophic role of macrophytes as a habitat for macroinvertebrates and in the trophic role of living and dead macrophytes a food source for these macroinvertebrates.

Atlas van het landschappelijk groen erfgoed van Nederland
Deze publicatie (deel 2 uit de reeks Rapportage Onderzoek Nederlands Cultuurlandschap) bevat een inventarisatie van landschappelijk groen erfgoed en licht toe wat de cultuurhistorische waarde is van bossen, houtwallen en heggen.
In deze publicatie is het onderzoek toegespitst naar landschapselementen van voor 1850 waarvan de oorspronkelijke beplanting nog in het landschap zichtbaar is. Een zeldzaamheid, want deze elementen vormen nog geen 3% van het totaal aan landschapselementen. De resultaten van het onderzoek dat 25 jaar in beslag nam, zijn terug te vinden in de kaart landschappelijk groen erfgoed. Deze publicatie bevat een toelichting op de kaart, uitleg over wat de cultuurhistorische waarde van landschappelijk groen erfgoed is, een stappenplan voor beheer, behoud en restauratie en een toelichting per provincie.
