Caulerpa taxifolia- Killer algae

Ξενικό είδος που προέρχεται από τα τροπικά νερά του Ινδικού, του Ειρηνικού και του Ατλαντικού ωκεανού.
Στη δεκαετία του '80, ένας κλώνος της C. taxifolia, ανθεκτικός στο κρύο, εισήχθη τυχαία στη Μεσόγειο από το δημόσιο ενυδρείο του Μονακό και στην συνέχεια εξαπλώθηκε στην περιοχή.
Αναπτύσσεται με ταχείς ρυθμούς και καταπνίγει την αυτόχθονη θαλάσσια βλάστηση.
Συναντάται σε βάθη 1- 70 μέτρα.

Caulerpa taxifolia- Killer algae

Alien species from the tropical waters of the Indian, Pacific and Atlantic Oceans.
In the 1980s, a cold-resistant clone of C. Taxifolia was accidentally introduced into the Mediterranean by the Monaco Public Aquarium and then it spread to the area.
It grows rapidly and stifles native sea vegetation.
It is found at depths of 1-70 meters.
