Μαρμαρομουδιάστρα (Torpedo marmorata) - Τhe spotted torpedo ray (Torpedo marmorata)

Ένα από τα πιο ιδιαίτερα είδη σαλαχιών της Μεσογείου, η μαρμαρομουδιάστρα είναι ένα νυκτόβιο είδος. Αυτά τα σαλάχια διαθέτουν ειδικά όργανα στην κοιλιά με τα οποία παράγουν ηλεκτρικούς παλμούς έως και 70-80 Volt.

Η μουδιάστρα χρησιμοποιεί αυτούς τους παλμούς για να ακινητοποιήσει το θήραμά της ενώ έχει την ικανότητα να εντοπίζει πιθανά θηράματα από το ασθενές ηλεκτρικό σήμα της καρδιάς τους.

One of the most unique types of rays in the Mediterranean, the spotted torpedo ray. Α nocturnal species, with special organs in their abdomen which grant them the ability to produce electric shocks of up to 70-80 Volts.

The torpedo ray uses these electric pulses to immobilize the muscles of its prey and has the ability to locate potential prey from the weak electrical signal of their pulsing heart.
