Agave x is a very useful place to assemble observations of agave hybrids not recognized by iNaturalist.
There are many such observations, although most of these are still identified as Agave, because as hybrids they cannot be assigned to a recognized agave taxon. So, unless assigned to Agave x, these observations are more or less lost.
I have started a project, Natural Agave Hybrids, that automatically includes Agave x observations.
I should like to manually add to the project hybrid Agave observations identified as only Agave. However, I have not found a way to implement this.
So, I beseech the powers that be, do not eliminate Agave x from iNat. To do so would wipe out information.
When a project can be made to encompass these hybrids, only then might Agave x no longer be needed.
Create a traditional project and then manually add them. You can't manually add individual observations to any collection project.
Once the taxon change is committed, no data are lost anyways. You'll be able to search for the old Agave x observations under withdrawn IDs.
