Forty year old, 57" body length, fin whale skull. Deceased wash ashore in January 2022. Image post natural scavengers, human intervention, and natural decomposition. The only reason the skull is still there is it's too big for the locals' pick up trucks.

These plants appeared intermediate between D. intermedia & D. rotundifolia, having the general aspect of D. intermedia (tight, leafy clumps of somewhat erect leaves; semi-aquatic, seasonally exposed lakeshore habitat) but having some leaves quite wide like D. rotundifolia and most leaves wider than typical D. intermedia. No flowers were present, which is described as typical for this hybrid. @cdlew @f_rivadavia @thilokrueger - thanks!

Greetings,
My son, Brad Jr, and I came across this unusual blue.."thing" on the Rachel Carson trail the other day. Could you please help us identify it?
The Slime mold community on Reddit says it is not slime mold.
The Insect Egg community on Reddit says it's not Insect eggs.
They were not very big ...the length of the strand maybe as long as your pinky finger and the blue tic tac looking things each were about half the size of a tic tac. It wasn't noticeable until you spotted it.... then it just stood out.

On 8/17 in response to my message to her came this informative note from Vanessa Voelker
"D. canescens is correct, and there is a particular combination of traits that set it apart from other Desmodium species:
big broad leaves, with relatively large and flared stipules
fairly hairy all over especially in the upper stem parts, with longer hairs than other Desmodium species
the upper branches bearing flowers are long and arching/dropping, rather than held ascending to erect"

Very strange specimens; super small. My best guess would be young Monotropa hypopithys, but I'm still not sure.
