Lake Dobson. I thought I'd found something just so so exciting here, but then I decided it was only so-exciting, when I realised it looked a lot like the smallest sawfly I've ever seen, then when I saw lots of them the next day, it had to be downgraded to plain exciting ;-)

Speaking of Sawflies, I found this little one dead in our rain gauge the other day.
A most unusual sawfly, I thought it was a beetle at first. Looking on here I saw Paul's id of Janet's and thought it was remarkably similar.
Further research showed it was a gr8 match (from what I could understand) of Antargidium atriceps, from the paper.

I left my id overnight to simmer in the pot. Next morning I took a confirmation look and realised the antennae are placed in a totally different place (very low down) on the face compared to Antargidium. So not even that genus!
Back to the drawing board.
Do you recognise it?
The two black patches on the pronotum stand out against the orange background very clearly to the eye, not so much in the photo's.

Six specimens, one photo each.
Because of their size, and location in the tree, I feel fairly confident that the pair in photo #3 are from the group in photo #1 of the observation of two days ago: https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/220434150
Photo #5 seems to suggest that an individual might grow multiple sets of horns.
Photo #7 This Melaleuca is growing amongst the Syzygiums. It has been almost totally de-foliated, as has the nearest Syzygium.
Photo #8 Another de-foliated Melaleuca in a copse about 30m away.
