When I walked by this on the trail, my first thought was that it was a really long snake. Then I realized that it was two snakes, but only one snake had a head- because the head of the plain-bellied water snake was inside the cottonmouth. However, it seems I startled the cottonmouth into giving up its meal, because it un-swallowed the other snake and left.

Here's the story behind this documentation, i got a call of 2 snakes fighting for around an hour just outside an entrance of a society. As i reached the spot i saw they were Common kraits and the larger one was trying to feed on the another krait who was on moult. Krait feeding on several snakes has been reported many times but this type of cannibalism is happens quite rare and i was lucky enough to witness one. Here's the whole photo series of cannibalism in common krait. And soon later the snake was rescued and was bagged safely so that it won't vomit (regurgitate), while releasing the snake I was happy to see that the snake didn't regurgitate.

Dead, its tail was hanging out of the mouth of a small California kingsnake which was crawling along the side of the trail at 5:30 pm. There were still large puddles from rain in the morning. I had know idea there were blind snakes here, and I assume this species has never been found here before, at least not recently. Just double check the pics in case I'm missing something, but I'm not sure what else it could be. Oh, and in case anyone is wondering, the kingsnake didn't its meal, even though I picked him up before I saw the blind snake.
