The egret only stayed an hour on the river here. My young neighbor ran to my house and took some pictures and then the egret flew away. It was noted that 2 great white egrets migrated over Hawk Ridge in Duluth yesterday morning.

This bird was in my backyard this morning. Initially thought it was yellow-shafted but it had a bright red underwing in flight and closer inspection revealed a red undertail. Had to get pics because this is pretty rare here. I am pretty confident this is a female red-shafted flicker but would like further input, as a hybrid is also possible.

While my mother was being interred, this eagle flew over, perched, chirped for a bit, then sat in the treetop the whole time, a good 35 minutes or so. She loved the story a priest told her some years ago about attending a funeral for a Native American, and his counterpart told him now we wait for the eagle, and sure enough, one appeared and flew overhead. Would have loved to hear her reaction to receiving the same honor. :)
