Mix of bounding and tobogganing. Nice, uninterrupted view from the dam. Not sure about the intersecting track near & parallel to the ice edge - maybe Red Fox.
Provincial Road (PR) 520 south of PR 313. Undoubtedly Northern at this date and location. Typically wary and restless, it allowed only one distant photo.
Old Pointe Road just west of Lee River Road. Preparing to defecate in Photo 2 - often a prelude to takeoff, but it stayed put. First of the spring for me - about average arrival date.
A tight group of about six pines with an overall globular shape.
Newly returned to the nesting islands, which are still ice-locked.
Called spontaneously about 80 minutes before sunset, with response from a second owl. It then responded vigorously to my poor imitation. Focus issues because of twigs.
Just upstream from Powerview dam, Winnipeg River.
Across the river near St. Vital Park
Separate entries made for Herring Gull and Double-crested Cormorant at this mixed colony. As well as adults of both species, small gull chicks and well-grown young cormorants can be seen in the closer Photo 1..
Adults; left-hand bird is regrowing an entire set of tail feathers (rectrices)
