A flock of gulls on the dock
Collected specimen, But I think I lost my pouch. I'll wait until I get some microscopic photos before ID
Found on floating dock facing west
Observed growing in mats, irregular branching from mid rib, red blades ovoid, one cell thick, spherical tetrasporangia,
Not a rare seaweed but takes some IDing. A detailed examination is required. It is a nice and delicate red but discolours quickly at the strandline. It can be confused with Membranoptera alata (Winged weed) but the latter does not have the lovely leaflets at midribs.
Under the microscope it is spectacular (most delicate reds are).
To get the best photos, they will need laying on a white board or light table and teased out wet with a fine art brush.
