Shrub form = var. cibata. Noted in McMinn's, An Illustrated Manual of California Shrubs. Restricted to Tehama, Shasta, and Trinity Counties. Not currently recognized but maybe should be. It can be found growing with the tree form at certain sites without any gradient between the two. Also seems to often be rhizomatous.
