Visual Description: This cicada possessed a wide, robust head with protruding grey/brown eyes on each side and measured about 1 inch long. The insect had clear wings with veins running through. A large dark green collar surrounded the neck just above the abdomen with black embellishments. The abdomen was a dusty black color.

Defining characteristics: Cicadas can be hard to determine due to the broad variety of species, the green color of this protostome would lead to believe this could be a Davis' Southeastern Dog-day Cicada (Neotibicen davisi).

Habitat: This protostome was found sitting on the driveway of my house. Typically, these insects lurk in pine woodlands. Cicada nymphs live in underground burrows and feed on xylem sap from roots of grasses or woody plants.
