Πλατυκοκάλι (Alectis alexandrina) - The African threadfish (Alectis alexandrina)
Ένα από τα είδη που καταγράφονται στο πρόγραμμα επιστήμης των πολιτών Σε ξενίζει .... Μοιράσου το μαζί μας-Is it Alien to you? Share it!!! είναι και το πλατυκοκάλι, (Alectis alexandrina, Alexandria pompano).
Πρόκειται για αυτόχθονο είδος της Μεσογείου, αλλά η επιστημονική κοινότητα γνωρίζει ελάχιστα για την κατανομή και τη βιολογία του.
Σύμφωνα με τα μέχρι στιγμής δεδομένα, το είδος εμφανίζεται πλέον συχνά στην ανατολική Μεσόγειο και κυρίως στην Κύπρο.🌍
Τα νεαρά άτομα του είδους έχουν στις σκληρές άκανθες του ραχιαίου, του κοιλιακού και του εδρικού πτερυγίου, λεπτές και επιμήκεις απολήξεις σχηματίζοντας έναν εντυπωσιακό οργανισμό που δεν θυμίζει σε τίποτα άτομα του είδους που έχουν ενηλικιωθεί.
Το είδος όσο μεγαλώνει, αποκτά πιο επίμηκες σώμα και χάνει τις απολήξεις από τα πτερύγια.
Συνήθως τα νεαρά άτομα εμφανίζονται ανοιχτά στο πέλαγος ή σε υφάλμυρα νερά, ενώ τα ενήλικα σε παράκτιες περιοχές με σχετικά μεγάλο βάθος.
🦑Τρέφονται κυρίως με καλαμάρια και άλλα είδη μικρότερων ψαριών.

The species are native in the Mediterranean, but there is no deficient scientific data about its distribution and biology.
According to the data so far, the species appears frequently in the eastern Mediterranean and mainly in Cyprus.🌍
The young individuals have thin and elongated ends in the hard spines of the dorsal, ventral and medial fins, forming an impressive organism that bears no resemblance to the adult individuals.
As the species grows, the individual acquires a longer body and loses its spines from the fins.
Young individuals usually appear in the open sea or in brackish water, while adults in coastal areas with relatively great depth
🦑They feed mainly on squid and other smaller fish species.
