I coordinated the Manitoba Breeding Bird Atlas (http://birdatlas.mb.ca) and chair the Manitoba Important Bird Area Program and the Manitoba Chimney Swift Initiative. I sit on the Bird Specialist Subcommittee of COSEWIC (Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada). I am involved in many conservation projects. I have a PhD from the University of Manitoba and my thesis examined the effect of human density on Eastern Screech-Owls. I am passionate about avian monitoring and conservation and participate in numerous bird surveys such as the Manitoba Nocturnal Owl Survey (coordinator), Breeding Bird Survey (Manitoba coordinator) and the Christmas Bird Count. I am also a Nature Manitoba board member and member of various committees and working groups including the Bi-National Golden-winged Warbler Working Group and the Manitoba Avian Records Committee. I regularly lead bird outings and train field technicians for avian surveys. I have published many articles on Manitoba’s avifauna, especially on owls, and received the Cliff Shaw Award for outstanding contributions to the Blue Jay. I am committed to public outreach, regularly giving public presentations on natural history and conservation to a wide variety of audiences. I love travelling and wildlife photography. I have photographed over 4000 species of birds and my photos appear in many magazines and books (also http://artusobirds.blogspot.com).
