I am a cultural history guy by training but an amateur naturalist by interest. I have been an avid birder since my teens and years of Backyard Bird Counts but am trying to learn more about flora and fungi in the areas where I live (currently, the eastern slope of the northern Rockies).

My current day job is in education but I also, occasionally, moonlight in the world of wildland firefighting. Beyond that, I try to hit the trails most weekends on local, state, and federal public lands.
