In the year 2000 I started the website https://mangoverde.org/birdsound/index.html to share photos, particularly of birds. It was meant to be a proof of concept for a digital field guide. It came before sites like bugguide, eBird, xeno-canto and iNaturalist. At one time it was the largest, freely accessible collection of bird photos on the Internet. Although the web pages were static, they were generated from information stored in a database. This combined the performance of static pages with the scalability of a database. I no longer actively maintain the site due to the success of sites like those mentioned.

I consider myself to be a general naturalist, but tend to favor things with wings, particularly dragonflies. I am an aerospace engineer by training and have always been fascinated with things that fly.
