Το ξενικό κνιδόζωο Cassiopea andromeda -Alien species Cassiopea andromeda

Ένα ακόμα ξενικό είδος που έχει εισέλθει από την Ερυθρά θάλασσα είναι το κνιδόζωο Cassiopea andromeda. Η συγκεκριμένη μέδουσα καταγράφηκε για πρώτη φορά στην Ελλάδα το 1942 στις Κυκλάδες.
Κύριο χαρακτηριστικό του είδους είναι το καφέ-κίτρινο χρώμα με άσπρα στίγματα και ρίγες. Συνήθως βρίσκεται σε αμμώδεις ή λασπώδεις βυθούς ή σε βυθούς που καλύπτονται από Ποσειδωνία.
Πολλές φορές συνηθίζει να κάθεται στον πυθμένα της θάλασσας ανάποδα, με αποτέλεσμα πολλοί να την μπερδεύουν με θαλάσσια ανεμώνη. Για το λόγο αυτό της έχει δοθεί και η Αγγλική κοινή ονομασία upsidedown jellyfish
Το είδος έχει εξαπλωθεί σε όλη τη Μεσόγειο.

Another alien species that has entered from the Red sea is Cassiopea andromeda(Upside-down jellyfish). This particular jellyfish was first recorded in Greece in 1942 in the Cyclades.
Cassiopea andromeda is a type of jellyfish that usually lives in intertidal sand or mudflats, shallow lagoons, and around mangroves. This jellyfish, many times are mistaken for a sea anemone, usually has its mouth upward on the bottom. Its bell, which is yellow-brown with streaks and spots that are white or pale, vibrates to make the water flow through its arms for respiration and the obtaining of food.
The species has spread throughout the Mediterranean.
