Maroondah and the City Nature Challenge 2023
Hi everyone,
As someone who has previously made one or more observation in iNaturalist within Maroondah, we are inviting you to contribute to our participation in the 2023 City Nature Challenge.
This year, Maroondah is one of 27 metropolitan councils teaming up to represent “Greater Melbourne” on the global stage, competing against hundreds of other cities from across the world.
In 2023, the City Nature Challenge is running from Friday 28th of April to Monday 1st of May, and we invite you to make observations of nature anywhere in Maroondah, or metropolitan Melbourne, during this period.
Over the four days, Maroondah City Council is running a variety of Nature Discovery Activities, suitable for those experienced and new in exploring the natural environment, and in using iNaturalist. Our experts will guide participants in observing local examples of fungi and frogs, birds and bugs, plants and moths. Numbers are limited however, so register online while you can!
Whether experienced or brand new, this is a great opportunity to discover, or perhaps rediscover, the biodiversity in your own backyard. We’re looking forward to seeing as many people as possible out and about recording their observations of local nature over the course of the Challenge, and hope that everyone enjoys themselves while observing and discovering the local biodiversity right here in Maroondah!
